This cast has a very interesting structure that I haven't seen in any of the other fire ant colony casts. Instead of having a single distinct
tapering structure to it like the other casts, this cast has a large main structure and two offshoots near the ground surface: one
toward the front of the display and one
to the side, which almost looks like a separate distinct colony. There were a few minor flaws in this cast which almost led me to discard it, but I'm glad I didn't because it turned out amazing.
This is a base that I bought precut and stained with Danish Oil with no clear coat. It has a nice natural look to it. Larger casts like this one are not mounted directly to the base. The base has three support risers which the cast sits on at specific points in order for it to sit in the proper orientation. There are three color paint marks on the
bottom of the cast which correspond to paint marks on the
three risers on the base.
